Over half a million Belgians to tune in to Mayo

Images of Mayo will be beamed into the homes of over 500,000 people in Belgium when a special Ireland episode of a popular culinary travel show called Sergio Over De Grens (meaning ‘Sergio Across Borders’) airs today on the TV station VTM. The episode will also air on the streaming service VTM GO.

Filming took place here last summer and was supported by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The TV show is fronted by Dutch chef Sergio Herman, who travels around Europe exploring different cuisines.

In this special Ireland episode, viewers will see Sergio travel along the Wild Atlantic Way in search of new and delicious flavours, local ingredients and inspiring experiences. Filming took place in Mayo at Glen Keen Farm. The episode is also due to air in the Netherlands at a later date.

Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Northern Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to support the production of this special Wild Atlantic Way episode of Sergio Over De Grens. Viewers across Belgium and the Netherlands will see Sergio Herman travel along the Wild Atlantic Way in search of new flavours, local ingredients and inspiring experiences.

“Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of activity. It’s a wonderful opportunity to highlight our stunning scenery and our fantastic cultural and culinary experiences to more than 500,000 viewers across Belgium alone, inspiring them to come and experience the Wild Atlantic Way for themselves.”
