Misuse of cycle lanes in Mayo county town

ACTION needs to be taken against people who misuse cycle lanes in Castlebar.

The existence of by-laws was queried by Councillor Harry Barrett at a municipal meeting, who said there are issues, such as people parking in the cycle lanes.

“How many fines have been issued for people parking in them,” he asked management.

If we are serious about them, issues like this have to be dealt with, he said.

Councillor Barrett has received representations about the matter.

He was told there are no bylaws regarding cycle lanes. They are governed under national legislation.
