Positive news on west Mayo road scheme

THE Newport-Derrada N59 road upgrade scheme has received positive news.

It has got the green light to go ahead and it's intended to have a contractor on site in Quarter 2 of this year.

The news on the scheme, which has seen some uncertainty over the past year, was confirmed at the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting.

The update, which followed a workshop with councillors, was 'positive', noted Councillor Peter Flynn.

It is important for tourism in terms of the greenway from Newport and on into Burrishoole, he said, and it is welcome news.
