Appeal to restore bus service between east Mayo town and Sligo
An appeal has been issued to the Minister for Transport to carry out a review of the Swinford to Sligo 922 bus route following its withdrawal during the response to Covid.
The matter has been raised by Sligo-based Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny.
He stated: "An assessment is required on the impact of the withdrawal of this service and how the much-needed route can be restored."
A spokesperson for the department said the National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally.
The NTA also has national responsibility for integrated local and rural transport, including delivering the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan and New Town Services.
"In light of the NTA's responsibilities for integrated local and rural transport in Counties Mayo and Sligo, the matter has been referred to the authority," the spokesperson added.
