Super trade for all stock at Mayo mart
SATURDAY saw a big sale again at Balla Mart, with prices on the up all round and brisk trade in all rings.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €3.43/kg, stores 400kg to 500kg averaged €3.51/kg, while heavier bullocks 500kg averaged €3.61/kg.
A CHX store bullock born April ’24, weighing 385kg, made €1,820 (€4.73/kg) for a Castlebar farmer, while another LMX, 480kg, made €1,990 (€4.15/kg) for a farmer from Claremorris. Another 680kg bullock sold for €3,000 (€4.41/kg), with the majority of these bought by Northern factory buyers.
There was a fine yard of Continental heifers, with over 300 lots, coming from a wide area.
Lighter store heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €3.64/kg, heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €3.54/kg, while heifers 500kg plus averaged €3.64/kg.
A smashing LMX heifer weighing 400kg made €2,060 (€5.15/kg), sold by a farmer from Foxford and going to a farmer from Ballinrobe.
Another LMX born May ’23, 560kg, made €2,800 (€5/kg) for another farmer from Clonbur, while a heavy CHX heifer, 915kg, made €3,400 for a farmer from Balla who had some great stock.
Cows were a great trade, this those 500kg plus averaging €3.07/kg and the tops getting over €3.50/kg.
A five-year-old 935kg LMX cow made €3,560 for a farmer from Corrandulla while another three-year-old CHX dry cow was sold for €3,470 by a farmer from Kiltimagh.
In the springers, a farmer from Castlebar had a three-year-old cow with its time up in March that made €3,800.
