Mayo team to defend their title at Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé Football Festival

Three Mayo ladies teams will compete at the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2025, the famed club ladies' and men’s Gaelic football tournament taking place all across the Dingle Peninsula from February 21 to 23.

Last year’s Comórtas senior ladies' champions, Burrishoole, tog out once again in a six-team round robin competition along with fellow Mayo club Carnacon. Burrishoole’s side of the draw incudes former winners Crosserlough of Cavan and Clare’s Doora Barefield. Should they progress, they will encounter either MKL Gaels of Kerry, Dublin’s Fingallians or multiple champions Carnacon, club of the legendary Cora Staunton.

Meanwhile, Achill ladies compete in the four-team junior cup. They play Annascaul/Castlegregory of Kerry in the straight semi-final and, should they progress, will play either Kerry’s Dingle ladies or Athgarvan of Kildare.

Fourteen counties from the four provinces of Ireland will be represented in the 36th edition of the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé, with 28 adult men’s and ladies' club teams coming for a weekend of competitive football and social events – including the popular Irish band Super Céilí at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry, west Kerry.

A recent research study by Lidl revealed ahead of the 2025 Lidl National Leagues said 42% of the Irish public are more likely to attend female games to watch a high-profile player. The Comórtas certainly helps that statistic every year, with the cream of club football descending on west Kerry, and this year sees many championship-winning teams competing as well as many inter-county players on show once again, which enhances the quality of football.

The festival, which was founded by eight-time All-Ireland winner Páidí Ó Sé, is supported by Lidl Ireland, EJ Menswear, Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, Medel Healthcare, Dooctor.ie, Fáilte Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta, and has attracted over 30,000 club players since it was founded in 1989.
