'Full house' at Mayo mart's weekend sale
THE 'full house' sign was up at Balla Mart on Saturday with flying trade all round and prices up again on last week by approximately €70 a head.
While there’s a great selection of cattle for everybody buyers realise that if cattle are wanted and they want to stay in the game, prices given have to be upped. Northern factory were busy online and made anything tight with flesh dear.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €3.81/kg, stores 400kg to 500kg averaged €3.66/kg, while heavier bullocks 500kg plus averaged €3.64/kg.
A 700kg CHX bullock born June ’22 made €2,850 (€4.07/kg) for a farmer from Ballyhaunis while another CHX, 635kg, made €2,600 (€4.09/kg) for the same farmer, who had some great bullocks, all going North.
Lighter store bullocks did very well with a lot making over €4/kg - the best a 340kg LMX that sold for €1,650.
In the heifers, lighter stores 300kg to 400kg averaged €3.73/kg, heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €3.71/kg, while those 500kg plus averaged €3.80/kg.
A smashing little 305kg LMX heifer was sold for €1,540 (€5.15/kg) by a farmer from Westport, going for breeding. Another CHX born April ’23 and weighing 485kg made €2,340 (€4.82/kg) for another farmer from Westport.
A Tubbercurry farmer had three cracking heifers that did very well, the best being a BBX weighing 620kg that made €4,050.
There were 140 cows, with a great clearance. A serious April '18 LMX made €3,970 for a farmer from Ballyvary, while another farmer from Ballyvary saw a five-year-old Limousin making €3,080.
