Top Mayo club set to appeal following FAI Cup exit in Waterford

Castlebar Celtic FC is in the process of finalising an appeal to the Football Association of Ireland following the club's defeat to Waterford Villa in the sixth round of the FAI Junior Cup last Sunday.

A special meeting of the club takes place later today to conclude its investigations into the matter.

The deadline for the paperwork to be submitted with the FAI is tomorrow (Friday).

It has emerged that Villa, who won the match 3-0, allegedly fielded a player who had played League of Ireland football after the FAI Junior Cup series had kicked-off - a situation Celtic believe would have deemed him ineligible for last weekend's encounter.

Officials of Castlebar Celtic are not commenting on the issue at this stage.

But the club is expected to make a statement tomorrow.
