Over 50 applications for five affordable houses in Mayo
MORE than 50 applications for five affordable houses in Westport have been received by Mayo County Council.
The five homes are in the new 50-unit Golf Course Road development, with the remainder being social housing.
Assessment of the applications received is now taking place, members of the council's housing strategic policy committee were told at a meeting yesterday.
Cathaoirleach Councillor Peter Flynn said this showed the need for affordable housing, with demand outstripping supply.
“We have to try and fill the gap for the squeezed middle,” he told management.
