Mayo Young Sports Stars: Under 15 girls capped great cup run with ultimate success

The Mayo Schoolboys/Girls & Youths AFL Under 15 girls got last year's SFAI Inter-League finals weekend off to a great start with a stunning come-from-behind victory over Galway in a game that had an early kick-off.

This SFAI Inter-League Cup decider saw Galway get the better start against their neighbours, going 2-0 ahead, but Mayo responded wonderfully before the break, scoring two quick goals in reply to leave it level at half-time.

The second half was end-to-end but eventually Mayo found the winner, and they saw the game out with some excellent composure, ultimately taking the title at the end of a five-goal thriller.

For Mayo manager Sinead Mulhern it was her second consecutive SFAI Inter-League Cup triumph having won with the Under 16s in 2023.

She had a strong set of coaches assisting her and a group of players that she lauded as a pleasure to work with, and for their exploits we are happy to name them the Female Team of the Year in The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards.
