Woman airlifted from Croagh Patrick after fall

A WOMAN was airlifted from Croagh Patrick this weekend after sustaining head injuries in a fall.

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by the gardaí at 3 p.m. on Saturday to assist the woman who suffered a head injury while descending the cone.

The woman was subsequently walked to the eastern end of the ridge path. However, as her condition began to deteriorate, emergency services were alerted.

The mountain rescue's first response team arrived on scene at the same time as Coast Guard Rescue 118. The casualty received immediate medical attention from the Coast Guard medic and with the assistance of mountain rescue personnel, was winched aboard the helicopter and transported to Mayo University Hospital.
