Closure of Mayo emergency accommodation centre confirmed
Mayo County Council has taken the decision to discontinue the use of the Railway Inn, Ballinrobe, as an emergency accommodation centre.
Councillor Patsy O'Brien has been informed of the move by the council's director of services.
He stated: "This decision takes effect immediately.
"Alternative arrangements are to be made for the current residents."
Meanwhile, Councillor Michael Burke has today written to Mayo County Council CEO Mr Kevin Kelly and other officials regarding the property.
He stated: "I have raised this issue constantly and we have finally got a step in the right direction, with Mayo County Council ending housing arrangements with the property.
"Councillor Damien Ryan and I met with a senior housing official last Friday evening and received assurances that Mayo County Council will no longer be using the Railway Inn as a provider of emergency accommodation.
"People of Ballinrobe are really uncomfortable with the situation and will only be happy when this property is no longer used for the purpose it is currently serving.
"People are really concerned with the high number of anti-social behaviour issues related to the property. People are living in fear in their own homes."
