Mayo Young Sports Stars: Schoolboys produced stunning comeback to win national title

Each year, the Eric O'Reilly Shield for the top soccer team of the year is presented at The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards.

This year's winners are the Mayo Under 13 boys, who captured the 2023/24 SFAI Inter-League Bowl title with victory over Waterford back in May.

They had to do it the hard way too, recovering from a 2-0 deficit to ultimately win 3-2.

Mayo, under manager Gabby Downes, scored a cracking first goal that went viral on YouTube and took inspiration from that to add two more and complete the stunning comeback.
