Mayo Sports Partnership launches Women in Sport Week 2025
Women in Sport Week – a week-long celebration that honours every woman and girl involved in sports, whether as players, coaches, officials, volunteers or leaders – is set to take place across Ireland from March 3 to 9.
The initiative also seeks to highlight the ongoing efforts of Sport Ireland, Local Sports Partnerships, national governing bodies and other stakeholders in promoting women’s participation in sports.
Engaging in sports and physical activity offers numerous benefits for women, including improved physical health, enhanced mental well-being, and increased opportunities for social interaction. Regular participation can lead to better cardiovascular health, strengthened muscles, and reduced stress levels. Moreover, being part of a sports community fosters a sense of belonging and empowerment.
Mayo Sports Partnership (MSP) is dedicated to supporting women and girls in accessing and engaging in sports and physical activities, offering a variety of programmes tailored to different interests and fitness levels.
To celebrate Women in Sport Week, MSP are inviting locals to get involved in the celebrations and take the time to acknowledge all the amazing women and girls who lead, administer, volunteer, coach, officiate and participate in sport.
Some of the events and activities taking place in various locations throughout the county include the following: activator walking with poles, adult swimming lessons, badminton, exercise to music, chair exercises, strength and conditioning, pétanque, basketball, and parkrun.
MSP and Sport Ireland have organised a number of webinars and workshops, including Training & the Female Menstrual Cycle (online on March 5 at 7.30 p.m. in partnership with Edufit); Fuelling Your Fitness for Women in Sport (in-person workshop at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, at 7.15 p.m. on March 6); Coaching The Female Athlete (Tuesday, March 4, 8 to 9 p.m.); Her Moves - Teenage Girls & Sport (Wednesday, March 5, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.); Her Moves – Supporting Teenage Girls in Sport (Wednesday, March 5, 7.30 to 8.30 p.m.); and Breaking Barriers: Women in Officiating (Thursday, March 6, 8 to 9 p.m.).
