Mayo Young Sports Stars: A community group that promotes physical and mental health

Castlebar Stingers Ice & Inline Hockey Club promotes sport, community and mental well-being, and has an impressive achievements in youth development and competitive hockey.

An inclusive club, Castlebar Stingers is open to people of all ages and skill levels, with 'Learn-To-Skate' programmes for children as young as four and opportunities for adults to learn the sport and join in.

The focus is on learning new skills while having fun, which creates a supportive and encouraging environment for participants to grow both physically and emotionally.

The club’s mixed-gender teams of boys and girls playing together is a great reflection of their commitment to equality and inclusivity in sports. The club has had some notable achievements too, however, with the Under 13 team qualifying for the 2024 Inline Hockey Ireland Playoffs.

Ultimately, though, Castlebar Stingers is more than just a sports club – it's a community that promotes the mental and physical health of its members, and an organisation passionate about promoting hockey across Ireland, especially in Connaught.

The club will be presented with a special award at this year's Connaaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards. Tickets for the gala event, taking place in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday, March 7, are available now. For details, contact Aiden Henry on (087) 6582141 or aiden.henry@con-telegraph.ie.
