Top Mayo club given official update on their appeal process

Castlebar Celtic FC have received an official update from the Football Association of Ireland in respect of their FAI Junior Cup appeal.

The club lodged an objection to the authority in the aftermath of the club's 3-0 defeat to Waterford Villa in the sixth round of the competition on February 16 last in Waterford.

In their appeal, Celtic alleged, following an investigation, that Villa had fielded an ineligible player in the match.

Now the Connacht Cup holders have been informed that the appeal will be heard on Friday next, March 7, at which both clubs will be invited to make further submissions, if required, via Zoom.

Villa are due to meet Salthill Devon in the next round of the competition at home.

But in the event of the Celtic appeal being upheld, they face the prospect of being removed from the series.

A decision is expected to be announced shortly after the hearing.
