Mayo Young Sports Stars: Making an impact with club and with county

Aghamore ladies put in a huge effort last year to win their first ever Mayo junior A title, securing victory over St. Brigid’s in the final.

Saoirse Delaney was a late addition to the Aghamore starting 15 on county final day but got her side's opening score, a wonderful effort from play, and it changed the game as her team began to play scintillating football having been under pressure in the early stages.

Delaney scored four points overall on the day and while there was disappointment for her club on their first outing in Connacht, she had personal delight in being called up to the Mayo panel for the 2025 season.

A player growing in prominence, Saoirse will collect a Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Award for ladies' Gaelic football at the presentation ceremony in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday next, March 7.

Tickets for the awards night are on sale now. For details, contact Aiden Henry on (087) 6582141 or aiden.henry@con-telegraph.ie.
