Proud distinction for leader of Mayo's holy mountain path project
Matt McConway, who led the Croagh Patrick Path team, has captured an Eco-Hero Professional distinction at the annual Outsider Awards.
This accolade is in recognition of his demanding and physical work on the Reek in all types of weather conditions.
Matt’s richly deserved accolade reflects not just his own hard graft but that of the other team members – Frank McMahon, Bernard Burke, David Doyle and Tulio de Jesus – as well as the mountaineering Ireland volunteers who supported the team.
Helen Lawless from Mountaineering Ireland extended her congratulations.
She stated: “I’m really delighted that Matt McConway’s work on Croagh Patrick has been acknowledged in the Outsider Awards.
"Matt’s high level of skill and his commitment were instrumental to the Croagh Patrick Path project, but his personal qualities were equally valuable.
"Matt’s smile and humour kept up the morale on the mountain through many really tough days.
"Well done Matt and thank you to all who contributed to this landmark project.”
