Action demanded on 'hazardous' pedestrian crossings in Mayo town centre

An elected member of Mayo County Council has expressed serious concern at the condition of many of the pedestrian and courtesy crossings and footpaths in the town.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne elaborated: "These are all paved with bricks.

"I want the members of Castlebar Municipal District to instruct the executive to carry out a comprehensive report on the condition of all of these and produce a written report to the council in advance of the April meeting.

"This report should include dates by when the works will be carried out to make these crossings and footpaths safe and eliminate the risk and hazard that they are to the pedestrians in the town."
