Cork City boss in fiery exchange with Mayo referee after Waterford defeat
Cork City manager Tim Clancy has hit out at referee Damien MacGraith following a heated post-match exchange after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Waterford at the RSC on Monday night.
Clancy, speaking to Virgin Media Sport, expressed his frustration at both the officiating and what he perceived as an unprofessional response from MacGraith in the aftermath of the game.
The Cork boss, who was dismissed after the final whistle, admitted he confronted the Mayo official over his performance, telling him bluntly: “You were shocking.”
However, according to Clancy, MacGraith’s response took the argument to another level.
"He turned around and said, ‘I thought your team were shocking’ Clancy revealed. “What he said back to me was an absolute disgrace. That’s your ego getting the better of you. Then he gives me two yellows and sends me off.”
Cork City, struggling to find consistency in the Premier Division after promotion now face the prospect of being without their manager on the touchline for their next outing at home to Sligo Rovers on Friday.
