Mary Robinson to receive ESG Leader Award

THE Business & Finance ESG Awards, in partnership with Grant Thornton, have announced that former President Mary Robinson, renowned climate justice advocate, will be honoured with the prestigious ESG Leader Award at this year’s ceremony.

The event will take place on April 10 at the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dublin.

Recognised globally for her unwavering commitment to human rights, gender equality and climate action, the Mayo native has dedicated her career to advocating for a more sustainable and equitable world.

As Ireland’s first female President and a former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, she has played a leading role in advancing environmental and social governance principles at both national and international levels. Through her work as Chair of The Elders and as a leading voice on climate justice, Robinson continues to inspire businesses and governments alike to take meaningful action on sustainability.

Commenting on the honour, Mary Robinson said: "I am honoured to accept the ESG Leader Award at a time when there is significant push back on companies accepting the importance of incorporating environmental, social and governance values to ensure their sustainability. I encourage Irish companies to show that both ESG and DEI (Diversity, Inclusion & Equity) are not only the right thing to do but also good for their bottom line."

Tracey Carney, managing director of Business & Finance, highlighted the significance of Robinson’s contribution to ESG leadership: "Mary Robinson has been a pioneering force for sustainability and corporate responsibility, demonstrating how ethical leadership can drive meaningful change. Her dedication to climate justice and human rights has set a global benchmark, and we are honoured to recognise her as this year’s ESG Leader."

The Business & Finance ESG Awards celebrate the companies, leaders and initiatives that are actively making a difference in sustainability and responsible business practices.

The 2025 ceremony will bring together key industry figures to showcase the success stories and best practices that are shaping a more sustainable future.

With 18 award categories, including ESG Innovation, Social Impact, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiative, the event continues to evolve to reflect the growing importance of ESG in the business landscape.
