Mayo Young Sports Stars: Skating a way to the top

At just 13 years of age, Bruno Fabia is an exceptionally dedicated athlete.

He trains four to five times a week, balancing it between inline hockey with the Castlebar Stingers and ice hockey with the Junior Belfast Giants.

The lack of nearby ice rinks means Mayo lad Bruno has to travel long distances, and he spends almost every weekend in Belfast to train and play ice hockey, and also travels with the team to away fixtures in Scotland.

His leadership abilities and skill on the rink are evident through his success with the Castlebar Stingers, where he has earned the All-Star Skater Award in both 2023 and 2024 and led his team to the playoffs as captain. This year he will be taking part in Inline Hockey Ireland’s Under 17 development sessions, which will serve as an assessment for the national team for the European Championships.

Bruno’s passion for hockey and his relentless drive to succeed make him an outstanding candidate for a Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Award, which will be presented to him at a gala ceremony in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday, March 7.
