Mayo Young Sports Stars: Making a splash in the pool
Ciara O'Cathiasaigh has been a member of Castlebar Swimming Club for a number of years, moving through the different club levels before finally, in September 2024, becoming a member of the senior squad.
She trains in the pool four mornings and one afternoon, with sessions varying from 90 minutes to two hours, while a strength and conditioning session is included on Saturdays.
Although only 13 years old, Ciara has been selected on the Connacht Swimming Squad for the second year running, which involves a number of additional training sessions during the season, most of them in Limerick Sports Arena's 50m pool.
Already this year her swims have qualified her for the 2025 Irish Summer National Age Group, Youth & Senior Championships, proving that's going from strength to strength in the pool.
We look forward to seeing her progress further in her swimming career, and to seeing her pick up her Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Award in Breaffy House Resort tomorrow (Friday, March 7).
