Young Mayo band to open concert for Eurovision winner

A rising young Mayo band will open for Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan at a concert this weekend.

McGettigan will be on stage this Friday, March 7, at WillowBrook Glamping in Ballaghdereen, and joining him at this intimate setting are MacHenry and The Dog Roses.

Lead singer Ethan Henry, a Leaving Cert student, and talented musicians Victoria and Elizabeth Burcovschi, are the trio that make up folk band MacHenry and The Dog Roses.

Sharing the stage with national treasure Charlie McGettigan comes hot on the heels of a local fundraising concert in Tooreen where they were joined by a host of local singers and musicians, showcasing a wealth of Mayo talent.

Ethan and his bandmates hosted the concert to raise funds to record and release their debut album.

It's a natural progression for the band after their debut single, 'Lost in Space', received a great reception when released last November.

MacHenry and The Dog Roses' fundraising concert in Tooreen featured Bandjaxed, a popular local three-piece band, and Daire Caulfield who had a night to remember on his debut performance before a live audience.

Joanne Gallagher, who recently was named as a finalist in Today FM's 'Big Busk' competition, was a big hit, along with Magda, who played some beautiful ballads on what was only her second time playing live.

Liam Foody is no stranger to the stage and recording, having previously released two singles. He played a full set of originals, which were really well received.

MacHenry and The Dog Roses are capturing attention with their music, with 'Lost in Space' a winner in the national song competition, The Night and Day Fest, earning them a day recording in a studio in Dublin and a chance to play before a festival audience.
