Celebrate International Women's Day with storytelling, art and mindfulness in Mayo
LE Cheile (Castlebar Family Resource Centre), Mayo County Library and the Linenhall Arts Centre invite the community to join in a special celebration of International Women's Day this Saturday, March 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The afternoon event at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar will feature a variety of art taster sessions, a journaling workshop, storytelling, and more - all for free!
The theme for this year’s event is 'Celebrating Those Who Have Inspired Us', with the goal of honouring and sharing the inspirations that have shaped our lives.
Lorraine Cusack, community engagement officer at Le Cheile CFRC, said: “We are thrilled to bring together our community to celebrate the incredible women who have inspired us through storytelling, art, music, and more. It’s a chance to share our stories, create together, and appreciate the amazing women in our lives.”
Event highlights include:
Storytelling: Fiona Dowling, a French-Irish storyteller and visual artist, will bring her unique tales to life. Fiona has been captivating audiences since 2001 and has performed at renowned festivals such as Cape Clear and Yarn Storytelling.
Journaling and mindfulness: Niamh Doyle, a mindfulness coach, will facilitate a journaling workshop designed to help reduce stress and anxiety while fostering a deeper connection to oneself. Participants will also engage in gentle mindfulness and breathing exercises, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
Art taster sessions: Community artists Justyna Gruszczyk and Alekandra Schulte will lead fun and creative art taster sessions, where attendees can explore techniques like marbling and collaging their 'Sheroes'. No artistic experience is required - just a willingness to create.
Inspirational women’s book collection: Mayo County Library will showcase a carefully curated selection of books celebrating inspirational women from various walks of life. Visitors are invited to discover new stories and heroes to inspire them.
This event is open to everyone, offering an afternoon of inspiration, creativity and mindfulness in celebration of International Women's Day.
