Fontaines D.C. actively considering home gig in Mayo

A homecoming concert in Mayo for one of the world's biggest rock bands could be on the cards.

If there's a suitable venue, Fontaines D.C. will consider holding a gig in the county, the band's management has confirmed.

Two of the band, who are enjoying ever rising success on the international stage, hail from the Castlebar area - drummer Tom Coll and Conor Deegan, bass guitarist.

There is a proposal to honour them and their fellow band members with a civic reception in recognition of their success.

Local Councillor Harry Barrett set the wheels rolling for a possible concert when he tabled a motion calling on the Castlebar Municipal District to spearhead moves to stage concerts in MacHale Park. And celebrating Fontaines D.C. was top of his list of events.

In correspondence back to the municipal district this week, the band's management said they already have plans for 2026 fixed and are working on their 2027 schedule.

The band 'would love to return', they confirmed, but the challenge is a venue of suitable capacity and production facilities capable of staging the show.

'If you have any suggestions of venues please do let me know and we'd be happy to consider them in future plans,' the response added.

Councillor Barrett welcomed the positive reply, stating: “It's great to hear that Fontaines D.C., with two of their members hailing from Castlebar, are actively considering playing a gig at home.

“Their global success is something we can all take pride in, and an event like this would be a fantastic boost for local businesses, hospitality, and the wider community.

“Given their achievements, it’s only right that we look at the possibility of a civic reception to honour them properly.

“I'd love to think we could give them the homecoming they deserve.”
