Upgrade works for Mayo island's water supply
A significant upgrade is on the way for Clare Island’s water supply with Uisce Éireann to begin works this spring.
The investment will improve the quality of drinking water for the island and reduce the risk of Boil Water Notices.
Uisce Éireann project manager Michael McHugh explained that the project will include the installation of new UV and granular activated carbon (GAC) secondary filtration unit system.
Investigative works were carried out on the island earlier this year with the project expected to get underway within weeks.
“Depending on weather conditions we hope to begin works before summer. This project is a significant investment for the region and will help ensure a safe and reliable water supply for islanders and visitors to the island,” Mr. McHugh said.
In recent months Uisce Éireann has made significant improvements in safeguarding the island’s water supply with the find and fix team detecting and repairing leaks.
