Mayo mourns passing of popular personality Oliver Murphy
The death of Oliver (Ollie) Murphy, Falfadda, Keelogues Road, Ballyvary, and late of Main Street, Castlebar, and Ballymacarten, Moyvore, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, is deeply regretted.
A widely popular and affable personality, he died peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff in Mayo Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
News of his passing has evoked a tremendous sense of sorrow and loss in the community where he was held in such high regard.
It was always a pleasant experience meeting Oliver on Main Street where he enjoyed keeping the area around the former Bourke's Chemist Shop so clean and tidy.
And, indeed, his fine and painstaking renovation work along one of the lane-ways leading into the Market Square car park remains very much in evidence.
A person blessed with a positive attitude, he possessed a great sense of pride in the county town and its people.
A wonderful family man, Oliver also had a deep love of music.
He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Anne (née Bourke), cherished son Tadhg, brothers Joe and Paddy, sisters Mary (Bobbington), Carmel (Lynn) and Edel (McGrane), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is extended
Oliver was predeceased by his parents Joe and Mary Murphy, brothers Jimmy, Mick and Sean, sisters Margaret (Connolly), Teresa (Murphy) and Anne (Murphy), mother-in-law Nora Bourke and father-in-law Augustus.
Oliver will repose in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, tomorrow (Friday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m.
Funeral cortége will arrive at St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyheane, on Saturday morning at 11 a.m for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.
Oliver will be laid to rest afterwards in Ballyheane Cemetery.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
