Davitt Neary returns to Mayo side to face Derry

Mayo senior football manager Kevin McStay has made one change from the team that started against Kerry two weeks ago for this weekend’s round six of the Allianz National Football League against Derry at Celtic Park on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The change to the Mayo team sees Davitts Neary of Breaffy replace Jack Carney of Kilmeena.

Mayo and Derry meeting in League action is a relatively new rivalry.

Their first two meetings were in semi-finals with the honours shared, Derry winning in 1961 and Mayo in 1970.

The first regular league meeting between the counties took place in Castlebar in November 1970, and since Mayo and Derry have been regular opponents.

Sunday's meeting will be the 30th between the counties, with honours fairly evenly shared, 14 wins to Derry, 12 to Mayo, with 3 drawn encounters in 1981, 1987 and 1990.

Derry have enjoyed home advantage in 12 of the meetings, with Ballinascreen (6), Celtic Park (4) and Bellaghy (2) hosting games.

Twelve games have been played at Mayo venues, Castlebar 5, Charlestown 3, Ballina 2, Kiltimagh and Crossmolina playing host to the Oakleafers.

Five knockout games have been played at neutral venues, Croke Park hosting 4, and the 1998 quarter-final being played in Markievicz Park, Sligo.

Stephen Coen, Hollymount Carramore, will captain the team on the day.

Referee Fergal Kelly from Longford will officate the game.

This match is live on TG4 with coverage beginning at 1:15 p.m.
