Castlebar again hosting sensory friendly St. Patrick's Day parade
CASTLEBAR town will again see Chapel Street as a relaxed performance street in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade on Monday.
This has been a very successful event over the last number of years and feedback from attendees has been very positive.
Organised by Castlebar Autism Friendly Town, the aim is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment so that everyone can enjoy all the elements that go into making the St. Patrick’s Day parade a wonderful celebration.
Chapel Street is the designated street where there is plenty of parking available for families nearby at Castlebar Primary School and the VEC offices in Newtown.
Toilets will be open in the Parish Centre for the duration of the parade, and there will volunteers to help out on the day. You will be able to recognise the volunteers as they will wearing pink high vis jackets.
A social story in video explaining the day and what to expect is available on the group's Facebook page.
The aim is for the parade to be accessible to everyone, with all floats that are playing music or instruments as part of their performance playing at a lower level for a relaxed enjoyment of the parade on this street. Any vehicles involved will not blow horns or play sirens while on this street.
Castlebar Autism Friendly Town has extended thanks to all groups participating in the parade for their support.
