Proposed ALDI supermarket for east Mayo turned down

PLANS by discount supermarket retailer ALDI to build a new store in east Mayo have been refused.

The outlet proposed for Swinford, on a site opposite the parish church at Castlebar Road and Kiltimagh Road, Newpark, was the subject of a number of local objections.

Now Mayo County Council has issued its ruling on the planning application: Refused.

Planners found that the development, if granted, would have an adverse impact on the vitality, viability and attractiveness of the existing traditional town centre of Swinford.

Traffic hazard was also a concern raised in the reasons for refusal.
