IARNRÓD Éireann, the Irish Exporters Association and Fleet Transport magazine are hosting a Smart Move Business & Connectivity event at the Grand National Hotel Ballina on Friday, March 28.
“This event is aimed to bring the businesses and associations in Mayo together for a unique networking opportunity and provide a platform to create a bond between attendees in the area that are striving to grow their operations and get their names out there as key players in the Irish and international markets. It will also enable engaging discussions on the necessary improvements and future business opportunities,” explained Kasia Steyn, senior project manager at Iarnród Éireann.
The keynote speaker is Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, joined by Minister of State at the Department of Transport with responsibility for international and road transport, logistics, rail and ports, Seán Canney.
The event begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the Grand National Hotel Ballina and welcome by Mary Moyles, president, Ballina Chamber, followed by the keynote address by Minister Calleary. Attendees will then be bused to the Iarnród Éireann freight yard nearby for a photoshoot opportunity as the freight train departs the station.
On the return to the hotel, Minister Canney will speak, followed by presentations and a panel discussion by Howard Knott, supply chain and logistics expert; consultant for the IEA, Patrick Daly; director principal consultant, Alba Logistics Consultancy; Irish Rail CEO Jim Meade and Irish Exporters Association CEO Simon McKeever.
Among the attendees are Mayo based exporting manufacturers, Mayo Chambers, freight forwarders, logistics and supply chain providers, Mayo County Council, Local Enterprise Office, Road Safety Authority and other organisations such as the West on Track/Western Rail Corridor.
“This event will focus on sustainability, global logistics, international trade and compliance and will provide valuable industry insights, solutions, and connections to help business grow in the region and compete globally,” added Simon McKeever; CEO, Irish Exporters Association.
“On behalf of the organising team, we are very grateful to Minister Calleary and Minister Canney for taking time out from their busy agendas to attend and address delegates at this event. We look forward to plenty of engagement, discussions and networking that we all can benefit from,” added Jarlath Sweeney, group editor, Fleet Publications.
