'Foot to the floor' interpretation of new speed signs - Mayo councillor
THE new speed signs on rural roads run the risk of serious misinterpretation.
For German visitors, they're an indication of 'foot to the floor', Louisburgh Councillor Chris Maxwell has warned.
The signs, with five black lines on a white background, are the same as the ones used on the autobahn in Germany, meaning no speed limit, he explained at a county council meeting.
That means ‘put the foot to the floor’ for German visitors, he added.
Councillor Maxwell has wondered previously why a simple '60' sign could not be used to indicate the new speed limits.
