Green light for upgrade of Mayo village's wastewater treatment plant

AN upgrade of the sewage treatment plant in Mulranny has been given the go-ahead by Mayo County Council.

Uisce Éireann sought permission to upgrade the village's wastewater treatment plant to improve compliance with the urban wastewater treatment regulations and EPA wastewater discharge licence.

As well as improving compliance, the works will maintain capacity and prolong the operational life of the infrastructure of the existing plant.

No new water supply or foul connections are needed for the development as works are all within the existing treatment plant.

The works will provide a range of benefits to the community and environment of Mulranny and its receiving waters, with enhanced treatment of wastewater prior to discharge to the Murrevagh River/Atlantic.
