Mayo pay price for sluggish start as Limerick triumph in Oscar Traynor semi-final
Joe Kelly’s Mayo League side conceded two early goals resulting in an insurmountable task as they failed to overcome a commanding Limerick side by 2-1.
A goal inside two minutes for Limerick’s Kieran O’Connell was swiftly followed by a Shane Walsh penalty which was struck with venom into the top right hand corner on the 5 minute mark.
Mayo appeared to be lost at sea early on and only after conceding an early brace began to dominate possession.
A Jordan Loftus goal on 25 minutes came from a misjudged clearance from Limerick keeper Gary Neville, and the Mayo captain struck from distance to give Mayo an opportunity to get back into the game.
Mayo will feel they could have had the better of Limerick if not for the poor start, but Limerick District League have book a date in the Oscar Traynor Cup final against other semi-final winners, Wexford League.
