Iconic sports trophy coming to Mayo club
WESTPORT Golf Club has been selected as one of 20 clubs nationwide that will display the Claret Jug as part of the celebrations surrounding the return of the Open Championship to Ireland in July.
Plans are already well advanced to have a range of activities organised for the hundreds of junior and adult golfers that will travel to Carrowholly on April 8 to have a photo taken with the iconic trophy, with Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick as a backdrop.
All local golf clubs are being contacted with invitation posters outlining the various activities that will be taking place on the evening of April 8, including putting and pitch and putt competitions, lessons in the Golf Ireland kids zone, and talks in the pop-up Westport Golf Club museum.
