Cafe restaurant plan for former Mayo pub premises

A PROPOSAL to redevelop a former pub in the heart of Westport town has come before council planners.

Developer Harold Conway is seeking approval to demolish what was Nolan's public house on James Street, along with its residential building.

In its place it is proposed to construct a new café restaurant, including preparation of hot and cold food, a food and beverage retail outlet with dine-in and takeaway services on the ground floor, and a two-bed apartment on the first floor.

An architectural report submitted to Mayo County Council states that the building has been derelict for a long time but even so, the existing structure is in a very poor condition and major remedial works would be required for the building to be used.

A previous similar application in respect of the premises was refused planning permission.
