Mayo Alzheimer Cafe ready to welcome you this morning

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland will operate an Alzheimer Cafe in The Tacu Family Resource Centre at Credit Union House, Main Street, Ballinrobe, on the first Tuesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Alzheimer Cafes provide a warm and welcoming space for people with dementia, their family and friends, social and health care professionals to meet, and exchange ideas and learnings. The cafes provide an informal way to meet others living with dementia and to meet health and social care professionals.

Usually an expert speaker is invited each month to talk to the cafe about a topic of interest. However, the cafe is also a space to chat and enjoy a social occasion in a supportive environment.

The café will offer a vital resource to the estimated 2,279 people living with dementia and their families in Mayo.

Alongside this, an Activities Club is launched specifically for those with young-onset dementia or those who remain active and wish to engage socially.

This initiative aims to create a vibrant, supportive community where members can take part in activities or courses of interest, day trips and social gatherings.

More than just a support group, this social club is about embracing life, making memories with loved ones, and having fun in a warm and understanding environment.

The society will be providing Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (maintenance) sessions in different locations throughout the county.

They will also be establishing a social group in Killala in the near future as well to provide a meeting place and social gathering for music, activities, fun, laughter and a nice cup of tea.
