JUDGE Fiona Lydon who has served as District Court Judge in Mayo for the past seven years will be moving back to Galway following the retirement of Judge Mary Fahy earlier this year.

Judge Lydon was appointed to Mayo in November of 2018 following the retirement of Judge Mary Devins.

She is likely to confirm her move to Galway at the District Court in Castlebar today Tuesday.

Judge Fiona Lydon

There has been no confirmation of who will be taking over from Judge Lydon in Castlebar.

But one of the names being linked with the Castlebar vacancy is Judge Sandra Murphy who was appointed to the bench in 2021 and has been serving in the Sligo District Court area since being appointed four years ago.

Judge Murphy is wife of well known Kilitmagh solicitor, Mr. Charles Gilmartin, and daughter of former Mayo County Registrar, Mr. Patsy Murphy.

Judge Lydon was appointed to the District Court in July 2016 and was appointed to the permanent position in Castlebar in 2018.
