Safety concern over fencing at Mayo lake

BROKEN fencing at a lake in Islandeady is a source of safety concern.

The fence has been knocked at Cloonkeen Lake, Councillor Ger Deere told a municipal district meeting, where he questioned who is responsible for it.

It's a dangerous situation, he said, with a lot of young children in the area.

Councillor Deere has received representations from people who enjoy walking around the lake with their children, but with the fencing around the lake badly damaged, the location is now dangerous.

In Castlebar itself, at Lough Lannagh, Councillor Blackie Gavin raised an issue at the pedestrian bridge over the lake.

There's a small section of post and rail where the wire is out and it's dangerous for children, he said.
