Mayo tributes to 'beautiful lady' Maura Murphy on her passing

Warm tributes are being paid to Maura Murphy (née Farrell), ‘El Vista’ Pontoon Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Poleberry, Waterford City, whose death has occurred.

She died peacefully yesterday in Sonas Nursing Home, Knock, surrounded by her loving family.

The deceased was widely known and respected in Mayo business circles for many years through her and her family's involvement in Murphy's Stainless Steel, Castlebar.

Maura is sadly missed by her devoted and much loved husband Michael, sons Michael, Kieran, Brendan and Damian, brothers Brendan (Waterford) and Edwin (Waterford), daughters-in-law Regina and Kathleen, brothers-in-law Martin (Kilkenny) and John (Kilkenny), sister-in-law Kathleen, grandchildren Michael, Jonathon, Derek, Conor, Katelyn, Killian, Caimin, Róisín, Hayden and Dirren, great-granddaughters Lucille Michael (USA) and Eva Mae (USA), much loved sister Breda (Kevin) USA, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Maura was predeceased by her parents Annie and Mick Farrell, brothers Michael and Willie, sister Annette and daughter-in-law Fiona.

Fond tributes are being paid to her on social media.

One stated: "She was a formidable person, astute, hard-working, highly thought of and respected."

Another said: "A beautiful lady who lived a wonderful life."

A further tribute noted: "She was always good company and treasured her family."

Maura will repose at her home tomorrow (Sunday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Removal from her residence on Monday at 11.45 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 1 pm in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

She will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
