Wildfire risk remains high in Mayo
THE threat posed by wildfires remains high in Mayo.
The ongoing dry spell means there's a heightened risk of wildfires across the county, particularly in upland and forested areas, Mayo County Fire Service has warned.
The fire service is asking everyone to do their part to prevent fires:
* No outdoor burning or campfires
* Avoid using barbecues in grassy or wooded areas
* Park responsibly - keep emergency access routes clear
* If you see smoke or fire, call 999 or 112 immediately
Even one careless act can spark a wildfire so we all need to work together to keep communities and the countryside safe.
Mayo has already seen the devastation caused by wildfires, with the Claggan Mountain Trail in the national park in Ballycroy destroyed at the weekend.
