Legend Timmy Mallett cycles through Mayo on Wild Atlantic Way art adventure

Timmy Mallett, the beloved British television presenter, artist, and 2024 I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant, has cycled through Mayo as part of his solo tour along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Best known for bringing energy and colour to 1980s and 90s television shows such as Wide Awake Club and Wacaday, Timmy is now inspiring a new audience through his artistic journey—exploring rural Ireland by bike and documenting the experience in paint and prose.

Travelling from Enniscrone, where he stayed in the Diamond Coast Hotel, Mallett made his way to Ballina, capturing the essence of the Wild Atlantic Way through his artwork and sharing his adventure with followers across his social media platforms.

While in Ballina, he visited the iconic Ridge Pool on the River Moy for some salmon fishing, stopped by the Ballina Costume Company, and enjoyed the warm local welcome.

He also met up with David Beattie of My Irish Drone Photography to take in the town from above, and stopped in to the Great National Hotel Ballina, enjoying a restful break as he continued his Wild Atlantic journey.

Mairéad Melody Carr, Manager of Mayo North Tourism, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Timmy to Ballina.

"His passion for art, travel, and community really resonates with what Mayo North Tourism stands for—authentic experiences, local heritage, and the beauty of the everyday.

"His visit has brought a bright spotlight to our town and our people.”

Timmy’s vibrant energy and friendly personality didn’t go unnoticed during his stay.

Locals and visitors alike were delighted to see the former TV star engaging with Ballina’s culture and creativity—not just as a tourist, but as a storyteller and artist.

Minister of State Dara Calleary also shared his excitement about the visit, posting on social media:

“My home village at the The Quay, Ballina looking its beautiful best as Ballina and Mayo North welcome TV personality Timmy Mallett to Ballina and North Mayo. Welcome Timmy, enjoy our spectacular scenery and renowned hospitality.”

Mallett’s cycling and painting adventure continues along the Irish coastline, with each stop offering a new story, a fresh canvas, and deeper engagement with local communities.

His time in Mayo has not only inspired new artworks but has also added to the cultural and tourism buzz of the region.
