Social Inclusion Awareness Month being celebrated in Mayo
MAYO Social Inclusion Awareness Month 2025 has been officially launched by Councillor Richard Finn at Mayo Movie World, Castlebar.
This was originally a week-long event but due to its growing success it has been extended to a month-long initiative to cater for a broader range of events, and it will take place throughout the month of April.
The aim of Social Inclusion Awareness Month is to highlight and support initiatives throughout the county that foster inclusion and equality. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of people in County Mayo.
Speaking at the launch, Councillor Finn, chairperson of the Mayo LCDC, said: “Social Inclusion Awareness Month promotes the very positive work that the voluntary and community sectors do on a daily basis to reduce discrimination, racism, poverty and social exclusion. It also gives us an opportunity to reflect on the many challenges faced by vulnerable members in our community.”
As part of the launch the Mayo Says No to Racism sub-group held the premiere screening of their new video 'Stand Up for Unity'.
Councillor Finn thanked the social inclusion and community development working group and the Mayo Says No to Racism sub-group for their hard work in organising this very positive initiative and wished them every success with Mayo Social Inclusion Awareness Month.
