Mayo parish mourns passing of 'a great neighbour'
The death has occurred of Bernard Hughes, Ballinafad, Belcarra.
He died peacefully yesterday in the care of his family following a short illness.
A true gentleman, Bernard was a much loved personality and a truly great neighbour and friend.
He worked with dedication on his lands in Ballinafad, mostly raising cattle.
He was also a skilled carpenter and tradesman whose great practical knowledge of how things worked helped out many people in their time of need.
Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Margaret, his brothers John and Mattie, sisters Josie, Nonie, Agnes, Kathleen, Frances, Anne and Loretta, Bernard will be sadly missed by his nephews, nieces, relations, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended.
Reposing at the Balla Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 p.m., followed by removal to The Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Gerald, Mayo Abbey.
Funeral Mass takes place on Friday morning at 11 o'clock followed by burial in Mayo Abbey Cemetery.
