TG4’s Scéalta na gCorn explores Mayo in third series
TG4’s captivating GAA documentary series Scéalta na gCorn returns for a third season this spring. Produced by Imagine Media with support from NI Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, the six-part series will air weekly on TG4 from Thursday, April 17, at 8 p.m.
Presented by Gráinne McElwain, Scéalta na gCorn (Silverware Stories) brings viewers on a journey across the country to uncover the remarkable stories behind some of the most treasured trophies in Gaelic games.
From cups named after historic Irish patriots to more recent legends of the GAA, each episode offers a unique insight into the people and communities who have shaped the games we love.
In series three, Gráinne hits the road once again, meeting the families, friends and club members who keep these stories alive. She explores the legacy of the names behind the silverware – and the deep pride felt by those who play for them.
Episode five of the series explores the green and red of Mayo as Gráinne learns about the trophy presented to the senior football champions, the Paddy Moclair Cup – named after a 1936 All-Ireland hero. She also travels to Breaffy, home of the current All-Ireland rounders champions, to discover the story behind a trophy named for former Taoiseach Charles Haughe, while in Claremorris, she uncovers the history of the O’Mara Cup and its connection to the local bacon factory.
The other counties that feature in the new series are Armagh, Meath, Carlow, Limerick and Derry.
Scéalta na gCorn is a heartwarming and inspiring celebration of local heroes, community spirit, and the legacy carried by GAA silverware across Ireland.
