Controversial bus stop poles in west Mayo to be removed

NEW bus stop poles erected in Newport earlier this week are set to be removed today.

The location where the stops were installed – on George's Street - met with public outcry when they appeared a few days ago.

Local councillors were quick out of the blocks in airing their frustration too and days later have been notified that the stops are being taken out again.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy said Bus Éireann confirmed to Mayo County Council yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon that the new poles will be removed today (Thursday) from George's Street, which has recently undergone improvement works to make it safer for pedestrians especially.

Councillor Mulroy thanked all who contacted him about the matter and also the council officials for their help in getting it matter resolved very quickly.
