Death of proprietor of legendary Mayo public house

The death has taken place of Michael (Mike) Cannon, formerly of Cannon's Bar, Market Square, Castlebar, and Coláiste Éanna Secondary School, Rathfarnham.

Mike passed away peacefully last Sunday while in the loving care of the staff at the Four Ferns Nursing Home, Foxrock.

He was a son of the late Eddie and Hannah Cannon and was also predeceased by his loving wife Laura Cannon (née Maguire) and sister Mary Cannon.

An adored and cherished father, he will be hugely missed by his beloved daughter Lisa Cannon, sister Patricia, son-in-law Richard, precious granddaughter Seren, relatives, extended family, colleagues and friends, especially his lifelong friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

The deceased was a regular visitor to Castlebar to maintain the upkeep of his family's public house, which has not traded for some years but still retains a special affection in the hearts of local people.

Mike will repose at JP Ward & Sons Funeral Home, Sandyford Village, Dublin, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Removal on Monday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Sandyford Village arriving for 11:30 a.m. Mass.

Mike will be removed to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Tuesday, arriving for 2 p.m. prayers, followed by burial in the family plot in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
