Two Mayo paths listed as Great Irish Pilgrim Journeys
A book, which has recently been published, lists two Mayo paths among the great Irish pilgrim journeys.
Having written several books that serve as essential resources for walking enthusiasts wishing to explore the Irish outdoors, Tipperary-born author John G. O'Dwyer has just launched his sixth book.
Within his latest book titled Great Irish Pilgrim Journeys, John G. lists the Tochár Phádraig and Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail as two of Ireland's great pilgrim journeys.
The author believes both deserve the title because 'they follow ancient trails to Croagh Patrick that are far older than the Spanish Camino and come replete with many echoes from our pre-Christmas and medieval past'.
“Walking either makes for a memorable journey through time,” he said.
The new book is a must-read for anyone interested in the Celtic Camino, the Pilgrim Passport Journey, St. Declan’s Way, St. Patrick’s Way and many other well-walked Irish pilgrim paths.
The pilgrim journeys described take anywhere from four hours to eight days to complete. Accompanied by detailed maps and beautiful photographs of the stunning landscape along the pilgrim routes, this is an ideal collection for the keen wayfarer wishing to explore Ireland’s deep heritage.
According to the author: “The new book aimed to act as a complete resource for Irish people and overseas visitors wishing to discover the rich history of Ireland’s ancient pilgrim trails.”
Great Irish Pilgrim Journeys is available from bookshops nationwide and online here.
