Up to 30 jobs on horizon in new dawn for east Mayo industrial park

IT'S a new dawn for the industrial park in Swinford.

The sale of two sites to a local business has been approved at municipal level, paving the way for the creation of up to 30 jobs. The sale will be fully ratified at next Monday's full meeting of Mayo County Council.

Local Councillor Adrian Forkan was happy to propose the disposal of sites 17 and 18 in the industrial estate to local firm MG Plant Spares Ltd, a company operated by the Gleeson family, when the matter came before a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting yesterday.

A deposit had been paid by the company some time ago but it was held up due to legalities which have now been sorted.

“This is a good news story coming out of Swinford for the industrial estate and it's long overdue,” said Councillor Forkan.

The Gleesons had suffered alot of deterrence to go ahead with it, he said, but thanks to the area head, Padraic Flanagan, and the team in the council the legalities were sorted and it's now going ahead.

“It's a good start, a new dawn for the industrial estate in Swinford,” commented Councillor Forkan.

It will be a start of possibly more units being brought to the fore, with more people looking to get involved there now, he said. The area has been tidied up and it looks well.

“It can be only be good going forward that the industrial estate will now start to do what it was put there to do - to create jobs,” he added.

The MG Plant development was looking to employ up to 30 people, stated Councillor Forkan.

Councillor Gerry Murray seconded the proposal, saying it was great to see matters resolved to allow the sale proceed.
